Businesses often make certain mistakes when it’s about designing a website. Most of these mistakes can provide low impact on the usability and practicality of the site, whereas the others can dramatically affect the experience of the customer. Here are some of the most common high impact mistakes that web designers make.

Website design

1. Black background

This is a common web design related mistake which a lot of businesses make. Black background actually includes a shadow effect on eyes. Therefore, when you are taking a look at your website as a visitor, you can see content really well due to the white black contrast. However, within 15 to 20 seconds, you will begin to get the shadow effect on eyes. Even if you look away from the computer screen, this effect will continue to appear to your eyes. Therefore, you should try to avoid having black background as possible.

2. Designing in Flash

Designing in flash is probably a major design mistake. Flash is animation and there is no text. Hence, it handles content/text in a way which is not search engine friendly. Most website owners are not aware of this. Also Flash is very slow to load. Hence, visitors might hate that. If your page is slow to load and has flash header then you’re actually creating an obstacle for the people to make a buying decision or to take any action which you want them to take. Therefore, just avoid Flash right away. You can use the HTML 5 instead. It provides a lot more guarantee when it’s come to flash as it can be search engine optimized.

3. Call to Action below the Fold

This is another common design mistake. Placing a call to action i.e. lead generation forms, the contact forms etc before you fold can actually take conversion rate from the double digits down to the single digits.

4. To Much of Mess

It is always better to focus on one central message rather than just using several flash animations and pictures. Never load your site with high tech clutter. A good web design is what is crisp, clean, honest and focused. You should get rid of mess or clutter and find out high quality images. One a high quality image in home page is several times better than the 200 bad images.

5. No Contact Information

Your neglect to include a physical address or a phone number can be another mistake. This is what most small businesses make when choosing to design their own website. Instead of developing a full list of 10 to 20 FAQ which customers might have or typically including a contact us form without placing a physical address or phone address is what actually indicates customers that you are trying to avoid them in one sense. It doesn’t convey trust. Do yourself one favor and don’t be afraid to get the phone calls. Don’t be afraid how people rate you. This is how you can actually help your business to prosper. One should not forget about the high touch aspect of customer relationships and customer service.

6. No about Us Information

This is another major mistake which small businesses make while designing their website. Most businesses fail to include a company or about us section. Customers always want to know more about you. They are anxious about the man behind the business and where they have worked and what they look like in most cases. Therefore, don’t forget to include a detailed company section and about us.
